This site is concerned principally with our hobby of family history.
Clive's direct Polkinghorne line in Australia begins with Thomas Polkinghorne who arrived in Adelaide aboard the "Java" on the 6th February 1840 together with his brother Isaac Polkinghorne and their families, having left their parents William and Elizabeth Polkinghorne behind in Cornwall. As was typical with Cornish Immigrants to South Australia in the 1840s, Thomas and his family followed the mining and agricultural industries from Willunga to Yankalilla, Moonta, Broken Hill, Leeton and Griffith, where we now live. Our three children and their families also live in the Griffith district. Other family names of interest are Coad, King, Buik, Breadner, Gibson, Wade and Jones.
Wendy's ancestors all came to Australia between 1832 and 1854 which makes her a fourth generation Australian on all lines. The names of her direct ancestors are Bastard (changed by Deed Poll in 1927 to Bested), Chalker, Dench, Dechert, Stewart, Kember, Bassingthwaighte and Broadhead.
Living persons have been excluded to respect their privacy with the exception of Clive and Wendy.
